Why I started an online farmhouse kitchen and homewares business
Karen and her husband Todd founded The Eumundi Trading Co after leaving Brisbane and relocating to Eumundi in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Seeking more space, a slower pace of life and the opportunity to build something meaningful together, they embraced a lifestyle centred around gardening, growing food, creating, learning and living more intentionally.
A passionate gardener for many years, Karen has long believed that some of life's greatest pleasures come from simple pursuits — growing herbs and vegetables, sharing food with family and friends, preserving seasonal produce, baking, creating beautiful spaces and finding joy in everyday rituals.
Through The Eumundi Trading Co and the Australian Farmhouse Living Journal, Karen shares practical inspiration on farmhouse living, cottage gardens, kitchen gardens, traditional homemaking skills, farmhouse kitchens, slow living and creating homes that feel lived in, loved and deeply personal.
Her work focuses on adapting farmhouse living to Australian homes and lifestyles, recognising that Australian farmhouse style is shaped by our climate, landscapes, gardens and strong connection to indoor-outdoor living.
Today, Karen continues to write, curate and share content that helps Australians embrace the timeless principles of farmhouse living — comfort, practicality, hospitality, self-sufficiency and a deep appreciation for the simple things.
Based in Eumundi, Queensland, Karen and Todd are building The Eumundi Trading Co as a trusted destination for Australian farmhouse living, combining thoughtfully selected homewares, garden products, educational resources and lifestyle inspiration for people who want to create homes filled with warmth, character and connection.
Karen’s background and love of homemaking, gardening and cooking are woven through every aspect of the business. More than simply selling products, her business promotes a way of life that values self-sufficiency, craftsmanship and a deeper connection to both land and community.
As interest in slower, more sustainable lifestyles continues to grow across Australia, Karen has found a loyal following among those seeking to live with greater intention. Quietly and purposefully, Karen is helping to bring traditional living back into modern homes — one well-made, thoughtfully chosen item at a time.
